Facelift
First signs of ageing appear as the tissues
start to get loose. At first, fine lines appear near the eys, around
the lips, the forehead and across the cheeks. Next, the creases
deepen near the mouth and between the eyes. Facial skin begins to
loosen and sag, fat deposits
start to accumulate under the chin. Facelift operation corrects
all these signs of ageing,
improving the various areas of loose, sagging skin and muscle folds
of the face and neck.

The operation outcome depends upon the
anatomy and degree of ageing in individual patients as well as upon
other factors such as skin texture, the amount of subdermal
fat, bone structure and heredity. In some patients skin sagging
in the cheek area is pronounced before they reach 40. The signs
of premature ageing can create psychological problems for the patients
making them look older than their biological age. Facelift
restores a youthful appearance to one's face correcting the visible
signs of ageing. But as no operation can permanently prevent ageing,
another facelift might be required within 10-15 following the first
operation.
Operation
A facelift
could be done in many different ways and on many levels. A facelift
done to a deep level is a complicated and time-consuming procedure
that requires excellent surgical skills of the operator. A facelift
done to a deep level is needed to achieve a dramatic effect.
The
facelift smoothes loose skin of the face and neck, elevates and
tightens underlying tissues and removes excess fat and skin. The
operations lasts 3-5 hours. During the facelift procedure we always
have an anesthesiologist following the patient through the operation
whether it is done in local or general anesthesia.

When
lifting of just the upper part of the face is performed, the
operation can be done endoscopically. The advantage
of the the endoscopic facelift is very minimal scarring. At the
open facelift the incision is placed within the hair, then it extends
behind the earlobe, inside the ear and continues behind the ear
within the hair.
The amount of the loose skin is measured
carefully and after the tissues have been tightened and the excess
skin and fat have been trimmed off, the wound is sutured and glued
together. After surgery, the patient is instructed to wear a gauze
dressing or a supportive bandage for 2-3 days and to keep it overnight
for 1-2 more weeks. The patient stays overnight at the hospital
after the operation so that we can follow that everything goes well.
The age when the patient needs a facelift
is very individual. The majority of facelift patients are women
in their 40s-50s but lately more and more men are requesting facial
surgery.
A facelift is frequently performed in conjunction
with other small procedures such as eyelid surgery, laser resurfacing,
lip contouring or Botox injections to achieve optimal results.

Coronal
lift
A
coronal lift corrects the skin wrinkling and loss of tone
and lifts the sagging eyebrows to a more pleasing position.
The incision may be placed toward the middle of the scalp where it is hidden
within the hair or at the front of the hairline. A
coronal lift can be also done endoscopically through three
tiny openings within the hair. The operation technique depends
upon the height of the hairline and upon other factors.
A
coronal lift elevates the sagging eyebrows, modifies their
shape, removes excess skin and the horizontal frown lines
at the top of the nose and the vertical lines between the
brows. The result is a more relaxed and refreshed appearance.
Midface
lift
Midface
lift is a new invention that requires excellent skills of
the operating surgeon. It is particularly useful for those
with sagging cheeks, deeper nasal furrows, and down-turned
corners of the lips. During the procedure the fat pads of
the cheeks will be repositioned up and over the cheekbones
where they belong. This redraping will improve the nasal furrows
caused by drooping fat pads. The most important aspect
of this procedure is that it lifts the cheek tissue vertically,
straight up giving a natural and youthful appearance. Incisions
are made inside the lower eyelid and the skin of the
lower lid is tightened.
